Business English Coaching

Are your business English skills holding you back from progressing in your career?

Do you feel you could improve your proficiency and confidence?

You can choose between premium one-on-one or group programs that are customised to your needs. Programs typically cover:

  • Improving conversational business English skills
  • Boosting verbal presentation and participation skills in work meetings
  • Timely feedback on business report and email writing, and
  • Insights into Australian English etiquette and conventions in the workplace.

My niche is coaching advanced English speakers, particularly who are working in Australia or for Australian businesses.

I focus on Australian business English for the workplace.

You’ll be tapping into my 35-plus years of professional experience as a writer, communications professional, school teacher and coach to advanced learners of business English. I have a Master of Teaching, TESOL certificate, and am working on a PhD in education (part time). Through Duolingo, I have run an online fortnightly event – business English for non-native speakers – for two years.

My approach is to:

  • Find out about your challenges in business English,
  • What you’ve tried to overcome those barriers, plus
  • Exactly where in your work life you need to improve your skills.
  • I then tailor a program to your needs.

The sweet spot for my clients tends to be somewhere between a four-week and a six-month program.

  • You’ll have a one-hour weekly live Zoom session with me, and
  • Receive prompt feedback on the weekly homework I’ll set for you.
  • I’ll also encourage you to email me with questions, draft emails/reports, even a short video of you practising your English, etc for even more tailored feedback.
  • You’ll make strides in your English because we’re not relying on just a one-hour session weekly to turbo-boost your proficiency.

As well, my clients have lifelong access to a closed Facebook group. It offers useful resources and updates for their business English proficiency and be part of a community of advanced English language learners.

My bespoke approach to business English coaching gets results.

Here’s what my clients say about my coaching:

As I talked to Margaret for two years in Australia [2010-2012], my fear of English disappeared, and it was very helpful that she pointed out the wrong parts of my English pronunciation.

In particular, I was able to maintain a sense of English through email even when I returned to Korea, and it was very helpful because she corrected my English in emails.

Business English coaching with Margaret was very useful for my career. After her lessons, I feel that my confidence in official English has increased. It was suitable for me timewise too. ‘If you don’t ask – you don’t get’ – these were Margaret’s words when I was struggling to find internships and needed help to craft impactful emails. I would recommend her as a business English coach.

Almost a year ago I looked up DuoLingo events to practice speaking English. English is not my native language. Although I have a lot of experience in reading, writing and understanding English, I don’t have much experience in speaking and felt very insecure about it. Not only did I want to gain more confidence, but I also wanted to improve my English-speaking skills. That’s why I took part in a DuoLingo event, that was hosted by Margaret. It definitely worked. With Margaret’s charm, humor and kindness, she helped me a lot to gain confidence in speaking. I felt self-conscious, but with Margaret’s guidance that has completely disappeared. She makes you feel that it doesn’t matter at all that you make mistakes. Margaret also pays great attention to everyone having their say. Even if someone is introverted, quiet and therefore not very present. At the same time, with her charm, she also succeeds in pulling those people out of their shells. In addition, her inventiveness makes every DuoLingo event a lot of fun. She always comes up with fun proposals to talk about. For example, in a session where everyone told something about where they live in their part of the world, using Google Earth. The effect is that you are talking about something you know a lot about and where your heart lies. And meanwhile, without noticing, you’re improving in the language you want to speak better. That’s exactly what Margaret had in mind! And so Margaret manages to let her participants learn while having fun. That is an exceptional quality of hers.
